BenQ’s V2400W has an unusual design, with an off-centre silver stand and an attractive glossy black bezel.

It may look nice, but there’s no height adjustment, portrait mode or wall-mounting option. The V2400W has a high 1,920×1,200 resolution and an HDMI port for attaching home entertainment systems or games consoles. When watching full HD 1,920×1,080 content you’ll get black bars across the top and bottom of the screen, although this isn’t too distracting.

The menu system is controlled by a touch-sensitive row of silver buttons under the screen. While attravailable, these are fiddly to use, and the buttons are unresponsive. Luckily, an audible beep confirms your selection.

The V2400W comes with a dynamic contrast system that is best left turned off, as the constant brightening and darkening of the screen is annoying in fast-paced movies or games. As well as the normal image quality controls, the V2400W also includes presets for Photos and Movies.

We found the Standard setting a little dark, with a green tint, but in games it proved the best option, bringing a richness to computer graphics. Response times in our gaming test were the worst in this category, but are OK for casual use. Photo and Movie modes were brighter but added a blue tint to images. Windows text was clear, and the large resolution was perfect for tiling windows next to each other.

Of the three 24in models on test, the V2400W has the best colours, but the image was slightly darker than the others.

Despite its great design, the V2400W isn’t worth the extra money over the other two monitors in this category. For £60 less, Iiyama’s PLE2407HDS has similar picture quality, albeit at a slightly lower resolution. Edge10’s W243h, meanwhile, offers more flexibility in positioning and an even lower price. Alternatively, Samsung’s 26in 2693HM, which has flexibility and great picture quality, is just £37 more.
