The Modula 9060I-OC isn’t the best-looking PC around. Silver edging livens up the plain black case, but this PC pales in comparison with the Dell, HP and Mesh models. The Pentium Dual Core E5300 isn’t as fast as some of the quad-core processors in other PCs, which resulted in a mid-table result for the Modula 9060I-OC in the 2D tests overall. With just two cores, it struggled in the video-editing test, but it fared much better in the image-editing benchmark. Gaming is a different story. With an Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 graphics card, the 9060I-OC produced the fastest 3D scores of the group. At a resolution of 1,680×1,050, we saw a smooth 24.3fps in Crysis and 55.5fps in Call of Duty 4. A 20in Hanns.G HW191D monitor is included, but its native resolution of 1,440×900 means the graphics power is almost overkill: at this lower resolution, the PC managed 64.4fps in Call of Duty 4. Sadly, it’s image quality is also below average, with washed out colours. The Modula 9060I-OC has plenty of room for upgrades. The motherboard has three free PCI slots, five empty SATA ports and no fewer than six spare 3?in drive bays. RL Supplies has also fitted a decent 500W power supply, which will be able to feed a good number of extra drives and other internal devices if required. The 500GB hard disk provides a decent amount of storage but, like Mesh, RL Supplies has saved money by opting for a drive that spins at 5,400rpm instead of 7,200rpm, which limits performance.
The bundled Microsoft keyboard is comfortable to use, but the buttons on the accompanying mouse were too easy to press, making double-clicks particularly awkward. Still, it’s good to see a two-year collect-and-return warranty, which is twice the length of Mesh’s stingy one-year return-to-base cover, and more convenient. However, this comes at the expense of a better set of peripherals, and unless a warranty is more important to you than a good monitor, the Mesh Matrix II TT remains the better buy.
