Most manufacturers have made promises to bring Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” to their latest phones, but few have actually announced dates. Those who have committed to providing the update include Asus, with its Transformer, Slider and Transformer Prime tablets; LG, with its Optimus line of phones; Motorola, whose Razr, Xoom and Xyboard models should receive the update; and Samsung’s popular Galaxy S II should also be in line for an upgrade. Archos, with its two G9 tablets, is slightly more specific, promising its upgrade “sometime in the first quarter of 2012”. According to a leak from Acer’s Polish office, the Iconia tablets should be updated in January 2012, while HTC has committed to “early 2012” for most of its line-up. Samsung’s Nexus S, the previous flagship for Google’s operating system, should be one of the first phones to get an upgrade – HTC promised it would be “within weeks” of the Galaxy Nexus launch. Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson has promised an upgrade to Android 4.0 for its entire 2011 line of Xperia handsets, but we won’t see this until March 2012.
