Gaming consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have now become fully-fledged entertainment hubs, thanks to their ability to run streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus and more at the click of a few controller buttons.

Not wanting to miss out on the fun, traditional TV broadcasters have created their own streaming alternatives; this includes the UK’s largest pay-TV broadcaster Sky which threw its hat into the ring with the free Sky Go console app. Available for all Sky TV customers, Sky Go works on both popular gaming consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The free Sky Go Xbox One app lets you instantly watch Sky TV’s vast coverage of movies, TV shows and sporting events from the comfort of your console. This is a great option if you quickly want to switch between playing a game and watching something on Sky TV, or vice versa.

If you’re a Sky TV customer and want to give Sky Go a spin on your Xbox One, then this is the guide for you. We’ll first tell you what you need before starting, how to find and download the Sky Go app, then get started watching Sky’s vast library of content on your console – all in just a few simple steps.

  • To be a Sky TV customer (obviously)

  • If you don’t have Sky Q, you’ll need a Sky Go Extra subscription
  • Sky Go Extra is free for Sky VIP members
  • Call the Sky Helpline (0330 041 3000) to check if you have Sky Go Extra, or to add it to your package
  • Your Sky ID and password

  • At least 250MB of free space on your Xbox One

If this is the first time that you’re accessing the Sky Go app on any device, then we recommend having a mobile phone, laptop or PC on hand because you may not be able to accept Sky Go’s terms and conditions from your Xbox.

Step 1: Turn on your Xbox One and ensure that you’re logged into your Xbox account. Next, go to the Xbox One’s Store section and select the option titled either “Browse” or “Search”.

Step 2: Search for “Sky” or “Sky Go”; the Sky Go app will be one of the first things to appear. Select the app.

Step 3: Now click “Download”, then “Confirm Purchase” when the option appears. You’re not actually paying for anything. That’s just Xbox’s way of confirming the download; the Sky Go app itself is free.

Step 4: The Sky Go app will begin to download and install. You’ll get an on-screen notification when the download is complete. It shouldn’t take too long, depending on your broadband connection speed.

Step 1: Now that the app is installed, it’s time to access it. First, press the Xbox symbol in the centre of your controller. This will bring up a menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Select the option called “My games and apps”.

Step 2: You’ll be taken to a new screen now with a bunch of different categories to choose from. Scroll down to the one called “Apps” where you’ll find the Sky Go app. Simply select it to open the app.

Step 1: Once everything is loaded, you’ll be asked to sign in to the app.

Step 2: Enter your Sky iD or username, then select “Next Step”.

Step 3: Finally, enter your Sky iD password and select “Submit”.

Step 4: You can now stream your favourite Sky TV content directly from your Xbox One.

This will save you from having to turn off the console and turn on your TV, especially if you’re someone who’s frugal with time. Note that you can’t download Sky TV content to your device to watch offline on your Xbox One console.
